Students will transform recycled materials and organic materials into beautiful and functional accessories that will organize and uplift the home and garden.

Projects for this camp include upcycled bird houses, woven paper bowls and baskets, bug hotel crafted from nature-finds and recycled objects, and decoupaged can-craft storage. We will encourage kids to think outside of the box by using non-traditional materials like old magazines, paper mache, sticks and bark.

Repurposing recycled materials into sculptural objects like bowls, baskets and bird houses can be a functional contribution to the home is a way of both building kids confidence as contributing members of their family and getting them to experience the art of upcycling and reusing materials that would otherwise be thrown away.

When kids create environmental art with materials which have been respectfully gathered from nature they are able to connect with nature through tactile-making and get in touch with their innate human impulse to create with what we find in the earth, together.

Please bring a brown bag lunch and re-usable water bottle. Complimentary snacks will be provided by SebArts.

About the Instructor: Amanda Rose Hopkins received her B.F.A from UC Santa Cruz with a concentration in painting and environmental art. Her work is currently focused on highlighting textures and the environmental importance of the kelp forests. You can view her work at https://artofnature.me/
