Expressive marks have been a fundamental part of art for centuries, from ancient cave drawings to 20th-century abstract expressionism. In this workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a variety of materials and techniques to help you discover and express your unique artistic voice. You’ll develop an awareness of the marks you naturally make, learn to harness their expressive power, and expand your visual language. Using drawing tools, paint, and collage, we’ll combine these mediums to create dynamic compositions. Prepare to be amazed by what you can create!

Supplies provided by instructor: paper, oil pastels, graphite, paint, brushes, mark-making tools, acrylic medium, glue sticks.
You are welcome to bring any materials you’d like to experiment with, except for oil paint.
About the instructor: Catherine Cruz is a French-American artist whose work is informed by the textures and patterns created by the passing of time and the effects of the natural elements on the built environment. She has taught collage and mixed media in the Bay Area and France since 2019. Her background is in interior design and green building certification.
