Campers will connect with our community’s food system through plant-based fashion creation.
With organic produce “gleaned” (harvested locally) by non-profit Farm to Pantry, campers will learn how to transform fruit and vegetables into natural dyes, friendship bracelets, and other accessories.
Together, we will tie-dye clothing fabrics and construct various accessories out of fruit leather and dehydrated fruit. On the last day of camp we will present a fashion show for family and friends with snacks provided by Farm to Pantry.
This course fosters play, creativity, and self-expression, while teaching children about the abundance of food grown in Sonoma County–and the importance of sharing it and not letting it go to waste.
Please bring a brown bag lunch and re-usable water bottle. Complimentary snacks will be provided by SebArts.
About the Instructor: Maddy Johnson studied Sociology at Colorado College, working with food justice and other community-based organizations. Before this, she was a Permaculture Intern at a sustainability education nonprofit in Oregon. These experiences have fostered her passion for health equity, food sovereignty, mutual aid and connecting with nature. Maddy is a GrizzlyCorps Fellow, through an AmeriCorps fellowship program administered through UC Berkeley and California Volunteers. She is assisting with Farm to Pantry’s Program Development, specifically their "Grow A Row" Program, as well as supporting their Kids Farm Connection. When she is not looking for delicious recipes to tempt elementary students to try kale, you will likely find her frolicking in the snow (she loves to ski), painting with watercolors or crafting.
