Sebastopol Center for the Arts summer arts camp program has been offered for the past five years. Now in our sixth year, we continue to promote creativity in youths in the form of a fun and engaging day camp setting. Each year we offer weekday sessions meant to expose and encourage creativity in youths to different mediums of art. The sessions for 2019 will be split into five weeks this year. Our camp will feature five different local artist who enjoy teaching their craft to young and creative artist.

PLAYing is what plays are about, so we'll be learning about storytelling with the most unique tool- YOU! In this course they'll be several activities where storytelling and confidence building will be at the epicenter of learning. They'll be no shortage of games and introductions to many aspects of acting/theatre. The beginning of the week we'll begin by building a safe space in name games, tongue twisters (articulation) improvisational acting and imagination exercises. By the end of the week kiddos will leave having learned who Shakespeare was, analyzing kid friendly scripts and how to use their bodies as artistic tool's for sketches we'll write & perform together.
This two and three dimensional sculpture camp will focus on creating new shapes and to think like a crafting sculptor. Young artist will build with materials such as wood and plexiglass to create and explore sculptural work. Young artist will learn about what it takes to build through the technique of assemblage. The process of assemblage in this camp will involve putting together a composition of forms, textures, and materials. By the end of this session, there will be a number of sculptures and techniques learned!
An introduction to different print making techniques. This camp will focus on learning to use different materials to create mono prints. Young artist will be able to experiment with different textures and patterns that can be pressed in to the ink. By the end of camp, young artist will learn how to use conventional and unconventional materials to make prints!
Young artist will be immersed into the world of drumming and learn about rhythm, tempo and improvisation. The focus on this camp will be to deepen a sense of musical intuition and explore artistic expression. Young artist will learn how to drum solo and then as an ensemble. No prior experience in drumming necessary for this fun filled session. By the end of the week, Sahar will lead a jam session and all young artist will put on a performance!
Young artist will have the chance to learn different painting and drawing techniques in a fun and experimental environment. The different variety of two dimensional projects will teach and encourage young artist to tap into their imagination. Functional art will be created over the course of the session and will allow young artist a space to hone in on their creativity and build confidence as a creator!
Get ready to play with clay and let your imagination go wild! In this session young artist will be hand building creatures with clay. The beginning of the week will involve getting hands dirty and learning the process of building clay sculptures. By the latter end of the week, young artist will learn about the firing process and glazing techniques.
