Beginner + Intermediate Classes!

Are you a beginner who wants to be playing and have fun? First you get to tune your instrument by ear and then you will learn basic chords, strumming patterns and even improvising!!!  Soon you will create and write your own music and entertain yourself, your family and your friends.

(BTW You don’t need your own instrument, there are cool (bright pink, purple and black) ukuleles to be borrowed from Sebarts. (let us know ahead of time). If you fall in love with the instrument, the ukulele will be available for purchase.

Beginning Tap Dance with Starr!
Instructor: Starr Hergenrather

 

Theater and dance teaching artist, Starr Hergenrather, leads a Beginning Tap Class that will introduce you to the magic of Tap Dance, this extremely fun and rewarding form of dance. You will learn the basics and from that build simple routines that will take you to your own exploration of the dance form.

Afterschool Private Art Club with Therese!
Instructor: Therese LaLonde

Students ages 7 -12 will explore multiple styles and media together to create visual art projects with a rich and dynamic learning journey. Together we will use visual, written and movement metaphors with the intention to build deeper understandings and connections between self-discovery and expression. Students will build a portfolio through the 6 weeks as they are encouraged to explore collage, mixed media, fabric painting, surface finishing and various painting and drawing techniques. The final program will culminate in a virtual showing, asking students to tell their own personal story through their work.

A TRIO OF CLASSES WITH ARIANA STURR

Ariana Sturr is an interdisciplinary artist and arts educator currently working towards her MFA at the University of Arizona.  She received a B.A. in Studio Art with an emphasis in photography and sculpture from Loyola Marymount University in 2015.  She has worked as an arts educator for the past seven years teaching k-12 as well as undergraduate courses. Sturr teaches using process-based art making techniques with an exposure to a spectrum of media helping students broaden and develop artistic abilities while finding their own unique creative voice. Originally from Sebastopol, California she now splits her time between Tucson and Los Angeles.

Ceramics At Home! With Ariana
Instructor: Ariana Sturr

You will use oven bake and air-dry clay to create all sorts of ceramic items! You’ll learn how to make classic forms like bowls, plates, and vases by hand and craft colorful clay jewelry and animal figurines. Students will learn the basics of hand-building with clay and get the basic tools to sculpt whatever can be imagined!

In this course we’ll paint, draw, and sculpt a variety of magical creatures! Create dragons with pop-out tongues, wire sculptures of crazy looking insects, sculpt colorful clay sea creatures, make 3D portraits of any creature you can imagine and… so much more!

Maker space with Ariana!

Let’s build things! Using found and recycled materials, woodblocks, and wire we’ll construct sculptures that move, art you can wear, musical instruments, transform recyclables into treasure, and much more! Students will practice being architects, designers, sculptors, and builders through a variety of hands-on activities.

Recycled materials: shoe box, cardboard (old cereal boxes work great), cleaned out tin cans (ex:soup can), newspaper or magazines.

What’s Your Story?
Storytelling by Doug Cordell

In this 6-week, interactive online class, you will learn to take experiences from your own life and craft a story that only you can tell, using techniques of composition and performance to command an audience’s attention!

Doug Cordell will coach a small group of students, ages 13-17, workshop personal stories, with an option to deliver the finished material in a live, online storytelling show!

This Emmy-nominated writer, solo performer and public radio storyteller whose true-life adventures air on NPR’s Snap Judgment and APM’s Marketplace. He also leads storytelling workshops in universities and corporate settings in the U.S. and abroad. Find out more at dougcordell.com

Introduction to Hula Hooping with Katherine!
Instructor: Katherine DuVal

Move and groove to lively, fun music with Katherine, in this introductory hooping class. You will master essential hula hooping techniques and learn some special tricks to impress! No experience necessary, just an open mind and curiosity to learn this special art form.

Hula hoops are not provided, bring your own adult sized weighted dance hoop.

Our 6-week Hula Hooping series kicks off with a Hula Hoop making workshop, with Master Hula Hoop Artist, Van Maffei! Learn how to make your own, custom, professional-grade hula hoop and then try it out in the first a hula hooping class with Katherine! !

Make your own colorful custom hula hoop , designed by you!  Priority given to students in our 6-week hula class with Katherine DuVal.  First hula hooping class follows immediately after the workshop at 2-3 p.m.
