Sebastopol Celebrates Summer with Music on the Plaza

Free entertainment at the Sebastopol Downtown Plaza each Thursday evening from 6:00-7:30  featuring a different genre of original music.  Bring family, friends and your lawn chairs; pick up dinner or munchies from one of our sponsors  and come enjoy this very special West County tradition. July 7Generations
Generations - Keith Abeles, Ed LaFrance & Lew Forrest play the great Jazz and Swing Standards. This group presents the artistry of some of the world’s most famous composers, including Irving Berlin, Rogers & Hart, Duke Eliington, Cy coleman, Antonio Carlos Jobim and others. Generations plays straight-ahead, well-known tunes for listening and dancing.

July 14Edge of Town
The Edge of Town band is lively with musical diversity, an ever- growing body of original compositions and an interesting variety of musical instruments. The band mines various fields of Americana from “old time”, early and alternative country, to a little R&R and some “ Tex Mex.”  Band members include: Tom Padrick, guitar and dobro; an Jeremiah O’Neil, “telbroalumicaster,” guitar, mouthharp and 5-string banjo; Dan Patchen, upright bass; Paul Smith, accordion and percussion; Maggie Ballard, rhythm guitar and percussion; and Tom Ballard, mandolin, guitar and fiddle.  Being a very democratic band, everyone sings lead or harmony during each performance.  Edge of Town has played at The Kate Wolf Festival, Two Day Town in Livermore, and The Old Grove Festival in Guerneville.  Whether performing freshly interpreted roots music or original compositions, Edge of Town engages its audiences with a largely upbeat repertoire, unique instrumentation and rich vocals.  

July 21Endorphins and Susy Lipsin
The Endorphins and Susy Lipsin play the soundtrack of the boomer generation – the vintage tunes from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s with a wide range of upbeat, danceable tunes sprinkled with romantic , inspired originals.  They specialize in 3-part harmonies  - an increasingly rare presentation.

July 28 Shari Garn and Wild Iris
Shari Garn and Wild Iris – Uplifiting, original alternative folk celebrating earth and spirit. Shari’s music is adult, power-folk; a passionate celebration of life, authentic, naked truth. This music respects your intelligence. It will make you get down in the dirt and sob and then resurrect you. It will fill you with love and incite you to mischief. Shari makes no excuses. Hers is a big beam of light, a force of nature. Her soulful and soaring voice comes from deep in the earth, longing, wailing, insistent. It’s contagious!

August 4 Peggy Day Gypsy Rock
Peggy Day Original Gypsy Rock -  Peggy Day has been a musician her entire life, teaching herself piano and writing her first song at age 6. Peggy, the songwriter, singer and guitarist for Peggy Day Original Gypsy Rock, she grew up on a ranch in Sacramento then moved to a logging town in the Sierras as a teenager. It was there in Feather Falls that she met and married logger Jimmy Day at age 17, giving her the name she has used on stage since she started performing in her early 20s. She recorded for the first time in her late 20s and has continued playing and writing music ever since. Peggy then moved to the Russian River area in the late ‘80s and has worked as a make-up artist/stylist for television, film and photography. Peggy Day & The Gypsy Knights’ new CD, “It’s All About Love,” was recently recorded at Dirt Road Studios in Guerneville.singer songwriter performs all original gypsy rock with inspiring lyrics and upbeat tunes that play in your mind long after the music stops.

August 11 Gray Street Band
Gray Street Band is a five member group that plays jazz, blues, bossa, and dance tunes from over seventy decades of the world's greatest songbooks.  Its sound is swinging, jazzy, soulful, eclectic,  and fits a range of venues, from candlelit conversations to busy dance floors.  Graystreet was formed in 2006 and is based in Graton, (Sonoma County) California. 

August 18
Batacha - Salsa night with a hot Latin band sponsored by the Sebastopol Area Chamber of Commerce and Radio Station KJZY.  Sebastopol Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Business and Community Table Top Fair in conjunction with the Jazzy Happy Hour. There will be businesses and community organizations providing information on products and services, children's activities, food and fun.
