In 2016, “The Bowl” event was conceived and developed, in an effort to raise funds for the improvement of SCA’s Ceramics Studio. As a result, qualitative enhancements were made to improve overall studio functionality, conditions and safety.
On November 12th, 2016, the first “The Bowl” event was launched. Tickets included the price of a gorgeous handcrafted bowl- created and donated by our local potters, yummy food, wine donated by Thumbprint vineyards, and documentaries from our film department. In addition, several generous artists contributed their work for our Silent Auction. With over 100 participants, almost $3000 was raised in one evening. Those funds were used towards build housing and safety for the studio’s outdoor kiln.
On January 20th, 2018, the second annual “The Bowl” event was held- and it was even more spectacular than the first! The event was fully sold-out, with over 150 guests in attendance.
In one evening, approximately $10,000 was raised, which included a sizable donation from one extremely generous patron. The bowls that were created and ultimately sold were extraordinary. Again, exceedingly generous ceramicists and potters contributed their work for the Silent Auction, as well as other valuable donations from other contributors. Mario Ramos from Mexico Linda donated delicious “pozole,” Ken Silvera from Pacific Market donated marvelous culinary dishes, La Tortilla Factory donated tortillas and Thumbprint Vineyards donated their wine, for the second year in a row. Danza Azteca performed brilliantly.
Now in its third year running, “The Bowl” has become a much anticipated annual community fundraiser- a fantastic celebration of art, food and entertainment- to benefit SCA’s Ceramics program.
