Please note that SCA requires that all ceramics studio users have some ceramics experience before being eligible for working independently in Open Studio Time.
If you are an experienced ceramicist or potter, and wish to take advantage of our Open Studio Time option, please read the following information carefully and thoroughly. Note that Open Studio Time is non-instructed studio time for hand-building, sculptural & wheel work for ages 14+ (no exceptions in the interest of safety).
SCA’s ceramics studio has 8 *Brent wheels, slab roller, extruder and glazes. Gas and electric kilns fire to cone 5 oxidation and reduction.

SCA is the only arts facility in the West County area that offers a ceramics studio that is open to the public.
SCA’s Ceramics studio is only for personal use and not intended for *production work.
(*A production potter works full-time, making a set "line" of work, rather than one-of-a-kind work. The emphasis is on efficient high-output production rather than on the original expression of the individual piece)
All users of the Ceramics studio must commit to its upkeep and preservation. Safety practices and cleanliness are priorities of the studio- for everyone’s health and welfare.
In order to be eligible for Open Studio Time, it is expected that you are independent and experienced at using ceramics use machinery and materials in the studio. If you do not have prior experience working in a ceramics studio, you will need to enroll in a class with SCA (see SCA Classes) or at another location prior to being eligible for Open Studio Time.
*Each session requires a separate open studio fee.*

* The last 30 minutes of the session is meant for clean-up only. This gives participants a full 3 hours to create. Work must be completed 30 minutes before the session ends.
* The above times are the only times to either pick up or drop off work.
* Clay may be purchased only at the above times or during gallery hours.

Ceramic Studio Users Packet
All users of the studio are expected to read the “Ceramics Studio Users Packet” in its entirety, as this packet contains essential information regarding the operations of the studio, safety procedures, guidelines, equipment, purchasing clay, supplies, clean up, etc.
All users of the studio will also be expected to sign the “Hold Harmless agreement,” found on the last page of the packet. Please submit the signed agreement to the studio Facilitator or deliver to the SCA main office.
